Motorway Traffic Emissions Estimation through Stochastic Fundamental Diagram

چکیده

Travel time, or, more generally, level of service, has always been considered the main parameter with which to design roads, particularly in extra-urban areas where geometries and policies, such as speed limits, play a key role performance achieved. Unfortunately, this type approach does not consider impact on emissions that is obtained when only performance-based goals are pursued. The paper deals analysis fuel consumption under different traffic conditions, we present new methodology for emission estimation based stochastic formulation fundamental diagram highway environment. proposed estimates using adaptation CORINAIR COPERT software both specific vehicle types average Italian fleet. As expected, due convexity function, accounting dispersion leads an increase energy emissions. Tests show component can lead up 5.5% and, therefore, it should be considered. applied by means real trajectories, results application optimization strategies contrast sustainability reduction policies. Results some vehicular classes, or highly dependent speed, proportionalities. In all cases, minimum at speeds ranging from 70 90 km/h. curves shows speeds, even reach low generally per kilometer traveled independent decrease travel time.

Motorway traffic parameter estimation from mobile phone counts

In this paper a new method for real time estimation of vehicular flows and densities on motorways is proposed. This method is based on fusing traffic counts with mobile phone counts. The procedure used for the estimation of traffic flow parameters is based on the hypothesis that ‘‘instrumented’’ vehicles can be counted on specific motorway sections and traffic flow can be measured on entrance a...

Derivation of a Fundamental Diagram for Urban Traffic Flow

Despite the importance of urban traffic flows, there are only a few theoretical approaches to determine fundamental relationships between macroscopic traffic variables such as the traffic density, the utilization, the average velocity, and the travel time. In the past, empirical measurements have primarily been described by fit functions. Here, we derive expected fundamental relationships from ...

Threshold queueing describes the fundamental diagram of uninterrupted traffic

Greenshields [13] captures the empirical relation between speed, flow and density for uninterrupted traffic in the fundamental diagram, see Figure 1. Mathematical models for uninterrupted traffic have been developed and the fundamental diagram in its basic form is now well-understood, see e.g. Newell [29, 30, 31] for a concise exposition. Traffic jams are a major concern for highway operation a...

Motorway Traffic Management and Traffic Parameters Estimation from Mobile Phone Counts

The amazing growth of mobile communications in Europe and especially in Italy allows the application of new technologies for traffic parameter estimation in real time. In this paper the main lines of a new method for motorway traffic monitoring is presented. Cellular networks allow to obtain accurate and detailed information on the position of motorway traffic users from mobile phone localizati...
